As the season is entering the final third it was time for the last meting with BSL Youth. Previous two games had seen BSL coming close to finally take points from their old nemesis the Vikings. Both teams had to make do with depleted squads as Vikings were missing Michael, Richard and Graeme due to injuries while Ruj and Udom were unavailable. On top of that the weather was as hot as can get so both teams had their work cut out.
The lineup: Niclas; Joel, Hallas, Breitner, Stein; Travis, Martin V, Christian H, Jannik; Mofok, Chris.
Subs: Tim, Christian L
Niclas was once again in goal and did a solid job. Travis was moved to midfield as Joel got a start in defense. Up front it was time for the lethal duo to continue their recent good form. Graeme had returned to the coaching role but should be back on the field as soon as his shoulder allows.
Because of the extreme weather conditions the pace was really slow during the whole game. Vikings dealt best with this as they did good to pass the ball around. It was also the Vikings who took the early lead after a corner from Christian H. Mofok flicked on the ball (with his back) to Stein who came flying towards goal and headed home. Much can be said about Stein but he does score the important goals – and always against BSL. 1-0.
BSL looked tired after the goal and perhaps they could sense that history was repeating. Hallas won the ball in defense and hit a long ball to Martin V who beat the offside trap. Martin V took the ball around the keeper and scored easily. 2-0.
BSL also had chances to get back in the game but every time it was Niclas who pulled off some incredible saves. Another long ball once again caused confusion in the BSL defense and top scorer Chris did not hesitate to take advantage. 3-0. First half produced no more goals but both teams went close on a couple of occasions.
In second half the Vikings lost their concentration and there were too many mistakes. Only Niclas in goal and some good fortune kept BSL from scoring. Vikings did manage to pick up their game again and Mofok sent Chris towards goal with a good pass. Chris was cold as ice and could score his second of the day. 4-0.
Chris caught the keeper too far off the goal line with a great finish. This completed his hat-trick and left out any chance of a BSL comeback. 5-0.
Vikings came close on some other occasions as Tim lopped the keeper but his effort was saved on the goal line. Also Travis had a goal disallowed because of an offside that only the linesman could see.
Christian H who played another fine game passed to Mofok down the right side and Mofok made a sliding shot that beat the keeper to make it 6-0.
This was the final goal of the game and a well deserved win to the Vikings. Once again a good performance where especially Niclas did well with many fine saves and of course hat-trick hero Chris who was voted man of the match. Mofok also did well but still can’t get enough votes for man of the match – unfair!
A look at the table will tell you that the Vikings are now in second position three points ahead of I-Play and with a better goal difference. The Germans are still holding a three point’s lead and have a game in hand.
