Vikings were up against Patana on a very hot Sunday afternoon. Michael and Richard were back in the lineup but Martin was still out with his injured foot.
The lineup: Michael; Travis, Graeme, Richard, Stein; Micke, Chris, Jannik, Mofok; Udom, Tim
Subs: Ruj, Breitner, Nick
The conditions were back to being hot and humid and that could be one excuse for the not very entertaining game. Patana did not have a lot to offer and Vikings did only what was necessary.
First chance came as Graeme had a good header from a corner kick but the keeper saved. Vikings kept possession but didn’t really look to dangerous in front of goal. Chris won the ball or actually the Patana player sort of gave it way. After a couple of touches he tried his luck from well outside the penalty area and caught the keeper wrong footed. 1-0.
Mofok got possession of the ball and picked out Ruj in the penalty area with a nice pass. As the Patana players cried for offside Ruj went past the keeper and scored. 2-0.
Nick who came on as left winger to make his Vikings debut had an effort on goal but the keeper saved. Ruj made a good pass to Micke but his shot went wide. Stein played a precise long ball up the left side to Mofok but his shot was saved.
Udom dribbled around a couple of defenders and then passed the ball back to Jannik. His shot from outside the penalty box went in at the near post. 3-0.
To be honest the game was very mellow at this stage. For example the top scorer didn’t really celebrate his 3-0 goal.
Patana did come close to scoring as halftime approached. Richard and Michael had a bit of a miscommunication and almost left the Patana striker with an open goal. Michael managed to save though.
The second half was even less exciting than the first. Breitner made an excellent pass to Mofok but the keeper stopped him from getting on the score sheet. Patana still didn’t have any shots on goal.
Micke had a struggle with the corner flag as it wouldn’t let him kick the ball. This was really one of the more interesting episodes. At the end of the game Mofok almost scored that goal he been looking for all season. A great shot but a good save from the keeper kept the ball out.
So 3-0 was the final result against Patana. Man of the match was Chris and for some reason Patana voted for a man of the match as well and chose Graeme.
On the positive side this was the first clean sheet of the season. Also Vikings moved to number 3 in the table with this win. Next week there is no league game but hopefully a friendly match can be arranged.
