Bangkok Masters Invitation

Invitation and Tournament Rules and Schedule

My thanks for your patience and apologies for keeping you waiting for more information on the tournament. I had to find a new venue. Although the playing surface will not be as good as 2005 our new venue – New International School Thailand (NIST) – is in the centre of Bangkok at the bottom of Sukhumvit Soi 15, approximately 10-15 minutes walk from Nana BTS and Asoke BTS and MRT stations.

Tournament information follows. Please note that places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis based on when the tournament entry fee is received.

Please ensure that all your players fully understand the following information and the tournament rules (attached).

The tournament schedule is as follows:-

Friday 26 th May

morning/afternoon – arrival of overseas teams in Bangkok
6.30 pm – BCCT Networking Evening at NIST (all players invited)

Saturday 27 th May

8.30 am – 6 pm – Bangkok Masters at NIST
7 – 10 pm – Football Dinner (venue to be confirmed)

Sunday 28 th May

8.30 am – 5 pm – Bangkok Masters at NIST
5.15 pm – awards

1. VENUE

NIST – location map is at the following url –

http://www.nist.ac.th/map.aspx

Teams are responsible for travel to and from the venue and can be arranged through your hotels if not in walking distance. If there is any difficulty please let me know and my staff will assist.

PLAYERS AND SPECTATORS MUST CARRY ID AT ALL TIMES SHOWING NAME, DATE OF BIRTH AND THE PERSONS PHOTOGRAPH. THIS IS FOR ENTRY INTO NIST.

2. HOTELS/FLIGHTS/VISAS

For overseas teams please let me know which hotel you will be staying in.

Please ensure that all your players, spectators and their partners have the correct entry visa for Thailand. As we found last year not all nationalities qualify for a tourist visa on arrival.

3. SQUADS

Squad size must not exceed 12 players for the duration of the tournament. This includes players that you may pick up in Bangkok. Once you have registered your 12 players you may not add to the squad. In particular teams in Thailand please note this. You cannot bring new players into your squad on Sunday unless they are already registered. The team registration form is attached. Please present this to the organisers desk at least 20 minutes before your first game kicks-off. You only need to complete the form once at the beginning of the tournament.

Players may not play for more than one team in the same competition. However, if a player is 40 years old or more he may play for different teams in the Veterans and Masters competitions.

If an opposing team raises an objection to the organizing committee and a team has played an unregistered player, a player that has already played for another team in the same competition, an under-age player or used more than 12 players for the tournament, the offending team will automatically forfeit the game 2-0 (even if it is a final) and the player will be banned from the tournament. If a team has any issues the team captain must consult the organising committee BEFORE the game commences.

For the Veterans competition all players must be aged at least 35 years on 31st December 2006

For the Masters competition all players must be aged at least 40 years on 31st December 2006

Please let me know if your team will include any ex-professional players. We would like to use this information in press releases to attract spectators to the tournament.

4. HEALTHCARE/INSURANCE

An ambulance will be present on both days of the tournament and a first aid kit is provided for each team. A massage service will also be provided for players. Please use this facility.

Neither the venue nor the organisers can accept any liability for any injury during the tournament. Please make sure that each team member is properly insured as the best medical healthcare in Bangkok is private and can be very expensive.

The temperature is particularly hot at this time of the year. We recommend applying sun block before playing and drinking liquids as necessary. Water is provided free of charge on both days.

5. RULES

The full rules are attached.

6. FORMAT

Veterans (ie over 35s) – 16 teams in four groups of four. Top two teams in each group go into the ‘Cup’ knockout. 3 rd and 4 th placed teams go into the ‘Plate’ knockout.

Masters (ie over 40s) – 8 teams in two groups of four. Top two teams in each group go into the ‘Cup’ knockout. 3 rd and 4 th placed teams go into the ‘Plate’ knockout.

Therefore, assuming that 24 teams participate each team will play at least four games.
The awards ceremony will take place at 5.15 pm on Sunday 28 th May. There is a natural inclination to leave the venue after your last game, however, the organising committee would greatly appreciate it if players stayed and watched the final and were present for the awards ceremony. Liquid refreshment will be arranged as an incentive to stay. Failure to attend may affect invitations to future tournaments. If you have to leave early to catch flights let me know.

7. FOOTBALL DINNER

The Football Dinner will take place from 7 pm on Saturday 28 th May. Details to follow.

8. ENTRY FEE/PAYMENT

The entry fees are US$ 500 (or THB 20,000) per squad of 10 players, US$ 550 (or THB 22,000) per squad of 11 players or US$ 600 (THB 22,000) per squad of 12 players. When deciding the fee to pay factor in whether you will be picking up players in Bangkok even if you don’t yet know their names.

BANGKOK MASTERS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

SATURDAY 27 TH AND SUNDAY 28 TH MAY 2006

AT NEW INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (NIST), BANGKOK

RULES

General

The tournament shall be played according to FIFA laws, except as amended below.

There shall be no offside.

Each match shall last 17 minutes. There shall be no half-time. Drinks may be taken during the match, but shall not be brought on the field of play.

Three (3) points shall be awarded for a win, one (1) for a draw and none (0) for a loss. An extra one (1) point shall be awarded to the winning team that scores three (3) goals or more in a single match. Only one extra point shall be awarded irrespective of the number of additional goals scored.

Only one pitch shall be used this year. There shall be three (3) matches per hour. Teams shall be ready to play at the appointed fixture time. Kick-off times shall be advised in advance. Failure to have a minimum five (5) players ready shall result in a 2-0 walk-over for the opposing punctual team. If both teams are late, they shall both be penalized with a 2-0 loss. As the schedule is tight and the venue is close to most team hotels, there shall be no flexibility.

Structure

There shall be two (2) separate competitions. For the Veterans competition, all players shall be aged at least 35 years old on 31 st December 2006. For the Masters competition, all players shall be aged at least 40 years old on 31 st December 2006.

Veterans (i.e., Over-35s) — 16 teams in four (4) groups of four (4) teams. Following the group matches, the top two teams in each group shall go into the ‘Cup’ knockout, and 3 rd and 4 th placed teams shall go into the ‘Plate’ knockout.

Masters (i.e., Over-40s) — 8 teams in two (2) groups of four (4) teams. Following the group matches, the top two teams in each group shall go into the ‘Cup’ knockout, and 3 rd and 4 th placed teams shall go into the ‘Plate’ knockout.

Points

Should points be level at the end of the group matches, the higher placed team shall be decided by (in order of priority): [1] more goals scored; [2] better goal difference; [3] by the result between the two teams; and [4] by the highest number of wins. If the teams are still level, a penalty shoot-out shall be held starting with best of three (3), followed by sudden death.

Should the scores be level after normal time in the Semi Finals and The Finals, a penalty shoot-out shall decide the winner. All penalty shoot-outs shall be best of three (3), followed by sudden death. Only players on the pitch at the end of the match shall take penalties. If the shoot-out remains level after 7 penalties, the round shall start again in the same order of players that penalties were previously taken.

Matches

Group tables and match times shall be circulated to each team by e-mail in advance of the tournament.

Times shown on the schedule are indicative only. Team Managers and Captains are advised to be available at all times, and to be aware of their scheduled matches.

Tournament officials reserve the right to alter the schedule at their discretion.

In the event of a clash of team colours, the second-named team shall change or wear coloured bibs that will be provided.

Teams

Squad size shall not exceed 12 players for the duration of the tournament. This includes players that the teams may pick up in Bangkok. Once the teams have registered their 12 players, new players shall not be added to the squad. In particular, teams from Thailand, please note this! Teams shall not bring new players into their squad on Sunday unless they have already been registered. The team registration form is attached. Please present this to the Organising Committee desk at least 20 minutes before each team’s first match kick-off. Each team shall only need to complete the form once at the beginning of the tournament.

Players shall not play for more than one team in the same competition. However, if a player is 40 years old or more, he shall be allowed to play for different teams in the Veterans and Masters competitions.

If an opposing team raises an objection to the Organising Committee that a team has played an unregistered player, a player that has already played for another team in the same competition, an under-age player, or used more than 12 players for the tournament, the offending team shall automatically forfeit the match 2-0 (even if it is a final), and the player shall be banned from the tournament. If a team has any other issues, Team Manager or Team Captain shall consult the Organising Committee BEFORE the match commences. Proof of identity and/or age may be required, and shall be provided when requested by the Organising Committee.

Unlimited rolling substitutions shall be allowed at any time during the match. Players who are substituted shall be allowed to return to play. All substitutions shall be made at the centre line under the supervision of the Assistant Referee.

Discipline

In 2005, only one player was booked. Let’s go one better this year! However, in the event of indiscipline:

1 st Yellow Card = the player shall leave the field for the duration of the match in which the Yellow Card is incurred, i.e., a “sin bin”.

2 nd Yellow Card = the player shall be given one match suspension for the next match.

3 rd Yellow Card = the player shall be banned from the tournament.

Red Card = the player shall be banned from the tournament.

If there are any particularly serious infractions, the Organising Committee shall impose harsher sanctions.

Players are reminded that the venue is an international school. Spectators, including parents and children, are likely to be attending. Each player, captain and manager shall take care with their language, and shall remember that a Referee has never changed his decision after having his parentage questioned!

Finally. All disputes, queries or objections not covered by the above rules shall be referred to the Organising Committee whose decisions and rulings shall be final and binding.

The BCCT and NIST, its officials and employees and the Organising Committee of the Bangkok Masters shall accept no responsibility for any damage, loss or injury caused to participants, players or spectators during the course of the tournament.

Teams are strongly advised to ensure that their players are properly insured.

Best of luck to all teams!
