WebWorks vs. Scandinavian Vikings

Friendly at Royal Navy Course, Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003

0-1

goalscorer: Jonas Thormar

The final 3 games of the league season for Vikings is against british teams, so fittingly coach had arranged a friendly against another british team, WebWorks from Bangkok Premier League, as preparation for a strong finish.

Vikings started 10 men on a terrible pitch, as middle-midfielder I hardly touched grass for the 70 minutes. Peter Keeper and Keld arrived after 10 minutes, having enjoyed a little too much of the evening traffic on Sukhumvit and Bangna-Trad and Erling was replaced in goal.

Throughout the game Vikings had a little more possession without looking real dangerous, the pitch making any passing game real difficult.

The defense with Jakob as substitute sweeper, Ole Bomber, Staale and Bjorn played strongly and only gave WebWorks a few scattered chances to convert a goal, which they never did.

Jonas’ friend should have converted in the second half when the WebWorks goalie dropped the ball, but from 4 meters out he managed to head over goal. Christian, Erling and Jonas all looked dangerous up front, but the final touch wouldn’t go and again we blame the pitch. Keld did a go job on defensive mid and he seems to improve his form which should help Vikings in the final games. Harry played strongly on the wing making his trademark runs down the side and once he gets a bit stronger on defense he should be deadly. Palle also had a couple of chances on freekicks, one hitting the crossbar, but Jonas gave the Vikings another victory when he hit the only goal of the game from long range for his first goal as a Viking (the first of many hopefully).

Decent performance by everyone, most having to play without substitution and a good warm-up before the crucial games against Blitz and BullsHead. Another friendly will follow on Saturday against British Club one of the most improved teams over this season and it should be another good practise.

Speedy recovery to all our injured players out there, we need you for the final games.

Palle
