Vikings pick up third consecutive win to close gap on top teams
It was a hard hit Viking team facing an unbeaten Anatolia side on Saturday. With Travis and Richard out to injuries and top scorer Claus and head coach Mofok away on scouting trips, Vikings only had 12 players to pick a team from. This forced assistant coach Chris to make some changes to the team. Jannik was switched to left back, Breitner moved into the middle of defence to man mark league top scorer Khun Piyapong and “The Real Deal” was handed his first start of the season up front. Vikings could also present a new signing in danish Sören “Lerby” Kristensen.
Apart from an early scare, the game started out brightly for the hungry Vikings. Chris and Martin V was given the space necessary to control the center of the miffield and Breitner got the upper hand of Khun Piyapong right from the first kick. Vikings had most of the possesion in the first half but was having a hard time creating any clear cut chances. The only real chance was given to Udom but he was unable to capitulize, and the ball was clear off the line. 0-0 was the score at halftime.
The Vikings came out even more determined after the break, knowing that a win was a must if they’re to challenge for the title this season. Only 8 minutes into the second half the Vikings were ahead. Breitner played a cheeky ball to Chris in midfield who passed in on to Bjerner who to made no mistakes alone with the goalie, 1-0!! The Vikings kept controlling the game and birthday boy Keld didn’t look a day over 39 as he raided up and down the left flank. Halfway through the second half Vikings doubled their lead when Bjerner headed a long ball onto Udom who turned both defenders and the goalie inside out before putting the ball in the back of the net. Vikings now looked certain winners and Anatolia created nothing more than a couple of corners. On one of of the corners though Jannik was unlucky in trying to clear the ball and it bounced right up on his hand and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot. Judas Anders did his best from the sideline to heckle to penalty taker who buckled under the pressure and Michael was able to both save and hold on to the ball!Big relief for the Vikings who were now unstoppable and Udom finished off a good days work with a sublime finish from just outside the box to make the final score 3-0.
All in all a great performance all over the pitch!! The result moved Vikings into third position, within striking distance of leaders Anatolia who suffered their first loss of the season.
